Dashmaster is a Charm in Hollow Knight. It decreases the cooldown of the Mothwing Cloak and allows the Knight to dash downwards.[Note 1]

Usefulness

The ability to dash downward can be helpful in certain platforming segments or in dodging attacks. The main use is early-game traversing, as dashing repeatedly is significantly faster than walking, and certain areas are too confined to properly use Crystal Heart.

Late-game, however, there are many more Charms that are more effective overall, and with the acquisition of the Shade Cloak, needing to dash sooner is not as necessary to avoid enemies. Dashmaster also does not decrease the charge speed of the Super Dash or the Shade Cloak. At that point, it is most useful when combined with Sharp Shadow.

Since Dashmaster enables dashing downward, the Charm also adds the risk of failing difficult platforming sections by accidentally dashing down. This is most notable in the Grimm Troupe Icon.png Path of Pain.

How to Acquire

Found beneath a statue below the Mantis Village in the Fungal Wastes, near the entrance to the Royal Waterways.

Further increases the movement speed bonus to 39%.[Note 3]

Trivia

  • When the Dashmaster's statue is struck with the Dream Nail, it gives the lines:
"...Dash faster... Dash further... Dash forever..."
  • When wearing this Charm, it is possible to use the Shade Cloak to dash downwards.
  • Dashing downwards prevents the Knight from staggering when falling from great heights.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 Without any Charms, the Mothwing Cloak has a cooldown of 0.6 seconds. With Dashmaster, it has a cooldown of 0.4 seconds.
  2. The damage is rounded to the nearest integer; for all possible values this is identical to rounding up.
  3. Without any Charms, the Knight's speed is 8.3. With Sprintmaster, it is 10.0. With Sprintmaster and Dashmaster, it is 11.5.
