Dialogue Bottom

Brumm is an NPC in Hollow Knight. He is involved in the quest of the Grimm Troupe.

Lore

Brumm is a member of the Grimm Troupe. Although he initially encourages the Knight to search for flames for the Grimmchild, he begins having second thoughts about the Ritual later on.

He does not approve of the Ritual playing itself out repeatedly and endlessly,[3] considering himself and the rest of the Troupe slaves to it.[4] Brumm believes the gathering of flames desecrates the dead Kingdom of Hallownest.[5] He wants to make the Ritual fail by destroying the Nightmare Lantern, the anchor keeping the Grimm Troupe in Hallownest.[6]

Should the Knight complete the Ritual, he bears them no hatred.[7] If the Grimm Troupe is banished, Brumm disappears, an amnesiac bug named Nymm appearing in Dirtmouth who greatly resembles him.

In-game events

When the Grimm Troupe is first summoned, he can be found playing the accordion just inside of Grimm's tent in Dirtmouth.

After Grimm has been defeated, Brumm appears in Distant Village where he gives the Knight a Flame if they do not already have three Flames. He then offers to help the Knight banish the Grimm Troupe.

He is next found in the Howling Cliffs in the room of the Nightmare Lantern. He jabs his staff into the brazier so it can be broken. Breaking the brazier makes Brumm and the Grimm Troupe disappear.

Exclamation Mark
If the player chooses to leave the room before breaking the brazier, Brumm disappears and Banishment will be unavailable forever.

Dialogue

First Encounter Mrmm. You called us?

Speak to Master.

Listening again ...Mrmm.

Speak to Master.

Listening while Grimmchild does not have three flames The flame. Seek it out.

For Master. For our kin. Mrmm.

Listening while Grimmchild has three flames and is equipped ...Mrmm.

Very good. The child burns with flame.
Master... is waiting for you. Mrmm.

Listening while Grimmchild has three flames and is not equipped You wish to see the Master? Return with the child full of flame and he shall appear.
Dream Nailed When flame burns bright inside one's mind

Kin heed the call 'cross lands and time.

Listening while having less than three Flames Mrmm. You came.

The red flame I've gathered from this dead Kingdom. You would claim it... for our Master. For his final act.
The Ritual plays itself out once more. We are like the notes in an old, old song. You and me. Mrmm.
Endless, repeating songs of sacrifice, of servitude. For the Ritual. For the troupe. For the Master.
Even this child was born into invisible chains. Mrmm.
So we serve... Thus it has ever been. Yes?
Take the flame then, it is why you came here.

After taking the Flame It is done... and yet...

It is not merely by fortune that we meet here, in the darkest, furthest reaches of the world, where the Master's scarlet eyes can not see us.
Mrmm. A song that never ends... is no song at all.
You take part in the Ritual, yet I sense you truly have no Master. Is it so? Perhaps together we can banish that livid flame and let this dead Kingdom rest in peace.
If you wish to silence the endless song... Mrmm, meet me where it began...
But if you return to the Master and complete the Ritual... Mrmm. As long as you do it without regret, I will bear you no hatred.

Listening while already having three Flames Mrmm. You came.

You have gathered the flame and so the time for the ritual's completion is upon us. All you must do now is return to the Master...
Thus it goes, as it ever has. We are like the notes in an old, old song. You and me. Mrmm.
And yet... It is not merely by fortune that we meet here, in the darkest, furthest reaches of the world, where my Master's scarlet eyes can not see us.
Mrmm. A song that never ends... is no song at all.
You take part in the Ritual, yet I sense you truly have no Master. Is it so? Perhaps together we can banish that livid flame and let this dead Kingdom rest in peace.
If you wish to silence the endless song... Mrmm, meet me where it began...

Listening again If you wish to silence this endless song, meet me where it began...

But if you wish to continue the Ritual... Mrmm. As long as you do it without regret, I will bear you no hatred.

Dream Nailed Yes. We are merely vessels for the flame. But... were we always empty?

Listening near the Lantern So you followed me here, to where the ritual began. You would join me in breaking it then?

It is painful to defy the Master, but our harvest... it profanes this dark, quiet Kingdom. This once, I would see the Ritual fail.
Mrmm.. Now! Let us destroy the anchor, and banish the Master. Never shall he return here again!

Dream Nailed Master... are even you a slave? If so, let our chains be broken together!
